Hello Renee
I am a free spirited, outgoing, open-hearted, passionate, fun-loving woman, mom, friend, sister, daughter, neighbour, entrepreneur and proud MiGi girl.
I was born and raised in the small town of Vryheid, KwaZulu Natal. This was a time in my life of never-ending days filled with biking the streets, playing on the train tracks, and running wild. This was also a time where life-long friendships were built, and precious family memories were made. I am deeply thankful that I could experience this as it built the foundation of who I am today.
After school I travelled abroad as a Rotary Youth Exchange student. This sparked the idea to study Tourism and I spent 4 years at the University of Pretoria completing my Honours degree in 2014. And of course, after this, I had to travel again. I was recruited by Qatar Airways as a flight attendant and spent 2 years living in their head quarters of Doha, Qatar. I travelled to the most exotic places that a small-town girl can only dream of. Seychelles, Maldives, Philippines, Malaysia, Japan, China, Indonesia, Sri-Lanka, Pakitstan, India (one of my favourites) and many destinations in Europe. South America, New York (what a blast), USA! What an experience this was for me. Later on, I started the next 10 years of my life as a flight attendant at South African Airways and returned to South Africa.
My daughter, Mila, was born and this was the beginning of MiGi Designs. My best friend, Izene and I, started the mom-business together and it grew into a successful, established well know brand. We had so many fun times with this start up, it was hard work, dedication and passion that has brought this business to where it is today. I love the creative process and design of our products, the fabrics, the colours and the endless possibilities there are to make something from scratch.
My dream for this business is that it will soar into heights that are un-imaginable, not for the money, but to bring joy with every product that leaves our factory, to create jobs and to uplift our community, to be a bringer of joy in difficult times and to leave a legacy of perseverance, resilience, and to celebrate the ongoing pursuit of happiness.
I believe the joy in life is the small and simple things of everyday life. Look around you, open your eyes and see the magic of life.
